MotoWest Racing was formed in 1991 by Matt Lorenzo, a motocross enthusiast
since 1972. Matt felt there was a need for a top notch racing organization that would
ensure high quality motocross events for years to come. He put his own on-track
career on hold to pursue the direction of his goal. MotoWest joined forces with
GFI-North and began promoting MX races at Hollister Hills. Matt noticed immediately
the need for a higher caliber amateur motocross event on the West Coast. This is
where the Annual Memorial Day Motocross Championship took its first steps.
In 1993, the 1st Annual Memorial Day Motocross Championship race was held
on the famous, Hollister Hills "GP" track. The "GP" Track has been the host of AMA
and AMA amateur motocross championship qualifiers since its inception. Many young
riders have gone on to win National Amateur Motocross Championships, after
qualifying at the Memorial Day event.
In 1999, Matt Lorenzo and Jesse Ochoa decided that Short Track races should
be held at the Club Moto Speedway Track. After one year of outlaw, they decided
that they could put on quality races with a sanction from District 36 and the
American Motorcyclist Association--AMA.San Jose Yamaha and Motion Pro joined
the promotions team as title sponsor's for the 1999 event. With support from many
fine companies, the event has established a reputation of rewarding riders with one
of the best single day contingency programs given at an event.
The MotoWest MX program has promoted events from many top organizations.
Currently MotoWest is running CMA, CMC, and NMA sanctioned MX races.
MotoWest will continue to provide a fun, safe and friendly environment as it has
for over 15 years.
